Bye Bye Summer!
We've had this flower here numerous times, usually as a herald of the end of summer. 2004,2008,2010,2012 and 2017. I think it's Liatris punctata, but since I found it in a wet spot down in the coulee, maybe it's L. ligulistylis. I was going to go back and see if the pappus is plumose or barbellate, and if the involucral bracts were cuspidate / accuminate, or else rounded to rarely acute. But I decided we could just call it by its common name of "Gayfeather"....
