Jumping For Joy
I told you things would get spiny before we left the desert. Those are "Jumping Cholla" (Cylindropuntia bigelovii). They have an interesting reproductive strategy; instead of relying upon seeds, the spiny joints readily stick to passing animals who, no doubt with some pain, carry them for miles before they finally fall off and regenerate a clone of the mother plant. Hope none came home with me! Ouch.
