Back on Hallowe'en we had a look at an old Nazi hat. Now on this Remembrance/Veteran's Day we look inside and wonder. Did Carl survive the conflict? Did he make it home, hatless, to tell his family and friends of war's horrors? Did he have what we now call PTSD, but back then was, if anything "shell-shock"? Did he end his days an alcoholic, drinking to forget yet doomed to remember, crying in his Bier at songs of das Vaterland, telling his rambling incoherent stories to those patrons unfortunate enough to be trapped by his side?
Whichever, let's dedicate this day to peace, and not to war.
