Speaking of wise weather adages, I recall a very dry spring when all the young farmers were worrying whether or not to be planting. The old-timer pounded his fist on the table and said: "Seed in the dust and the grainaries'll bust!"

A couple of years later, it was one of those springs with drizzly rains every day and no real sun to dry it up. He cocked his head to one side and wisely opined: "Seed in the mud and the grainaries will flood!"
