My wife doesn't understand why I spend most of a Saturday morning each year blanching and then slivering a huge stack of almonds for the beloved Lebkuchen. "Why not just buy them slivered?"
"But they're way more expensive!" (maybe a little Scotch blood there...) "The store-bought ones are stale!" (dunno where that comes from) "But we've always done it this way!" (Ach, there's the German!)
