Happy Hour
A couple of days ago I featured Mentzelia decapetala here, and expressed my skepticism about the role played by bees as pollinators, thinking the bees would all be abed by the time the flowers opened at sunset.

Well, a visit to the field proved enlightening. There were hundreds of tired worker bees stopping in at these tasty little prairie cabarets to nosh on pollen and maybe a shot or two of nectar before heading home for the hive. I mean, look at the pollen-sacs on that guy!
