Leaves In The River
A lifetime spent tied to that tree. Sunup to sundown, building bark and roots. Strength now exhausted, cut loose useless, discarded to fend alone. Would you too not yearn to flee, on wind, on water, free now; but so little time till winter's certain icy death. The river! The sea? Ahh, the dreams.
