This year's gardening experiment hearkens back to ancient Mayan agricultural practice. And no, we are not sprinkling the fields with blood from human sacrifices, although I must admit to having been tempted a couple of times last week.
Theoretically, the corn grows straight and tall, providing support for the beans, which fixate nitrogen for the corn and for the squash, which in turn shades the whole complex and keeps the weeds down. We can only hope that the whole assemblage looks so ridiculous that the grasshoppers will be frightened away. As you feared, we will keep you posted....
