World of Earth and Ice

Check out the new display at Canada House called "World of Water". You can tell it's Canada, because much of the water is frozen....

K. Neil Swanson illustrates this legend:

Many ages ago, the sky spirits were arguing over the world of ice and earth. The Bear Spirit said the earth was too dry, and the Fish Spirit complained the ice was too hard. So they decided to move a great star closer to the world, until some of the ice melted, and some of the earth warmed. The Sky Spirits liked this new world so much, that the Fish Spirit dove into the lakes and oceans, and the Bear Spirit moved onto the shores along the rivers and streams.
